Our professional staff includes board certified child and adolescent psychiatrists, highly specialized child & adolescent behavior therapists and psychotherapists, learning consultants, organizational skills coaches, speech & language therapists, occupational therapists and nutritionists.
Though our clinical professionals are experts in diagnosis and treatment of childhood disorders, we know from our vast experience that all children and adolescents do not necessarily fit neatly into particular diagnostic categories. As such, we believe in not simply looking for a “diagnosis”. Rather, we strive to understand each child and adolescent and his or her needs, as well as those of their family, and to identify their specific problem areas, whether they are emotional, behavioral, social or academic. From this understanding, we design an individualized treatment plan that effectively and practically helps each of our New Jersey and New York patients.
Children and adolescents who struggle with their moods may be dealing with mood disorders such as depression, anxiety disorders, and childhood bipolar disorder, which can often lead to an emotional ‘roller coaster’ that interferes with their daily life.
At our center, our goal is to help children become more aware of their moods and develop the skills to influence, regulate, and control them. Our board certified child psychiatrists expertly and judiciously consider the use of medication as part of a comprehensive treatment plan, where appropriate.
We provide educational resources on depression, anxiety, and childhood bipolar disorder, helping children and adolescents understand how these conditions can impact their daily life. Additionally, we offer regular support groups for teenagers to connect and share their experiences with excessive mood swings, bipolar disorder, or depression.
Difficult, oppositional, and defiant behaviors can disrupt a child’s interactions with teachers, classmates, peers, and family. We provide specialized techniques to help children manage their anger and teach parents how to maintain their child’s behavioral control. Our programs also focus on social skill development within a group setting where children can learn the intricacies of social interaction, as well as anger management and conflict resolution techniques.
